Machaela Cavanaugh to Seek Seat in the Unicameral

OMAHA, NE – Machaela Cavanaugh, a native Omahan with nearly 20 years in public affairs and community engagement, announced today that she will be a candidate for the Nebraska Legislature from District 6.

“I’m running for the Legislature because as a mother of two little girls, I want to see a Nebraska that gives my girls and children across our state more opportunities to achieve their hopes and dreams,” Cavanaugh said. “I’ll be a needed voice for District 6’s priorities: property tax relief, investing in education, protecting our seniors, and growing the good-paying jobs of the future. The only way we can make lasting progress on these issues is to have a State Senator who
truly puts problem solving over partisanship.”


Cavanaugh Seeks to Fill Vacant Seat in the Unicameral

OMAHA, NE – Machaela Cavanaugh, an Omaha native with an extensive record in public affairs and community engagement, has submitted her application to fill the vacant District 6 seat in the Nebraska Legislature. Governor Pete Ricketts announced on September 6 that he is seeking qualified applicants to fill the vacancy.

 Legislative District 6 includes voters from Central and West-Central Omaha. “I have met with hundreds of District 6 voters during the past month,  and it is clear that they want a voice in the legislature who will champion their priorities: tax relief, investments in education, quality child care, protecting our seniors, and growing the good-paying jobs of the future,” Cavanaugh said. 


Cavanaugh Most Qualified Applicant to Fill Legislative Vacancy

OMAHA, NE –Today the open application for those who seek appointment to fill the Legislative District 6 (LD6) vacancy created by the resignation of former State Senator Joni Craighead is closing. LD6 resident Machaela Cavanaugh remains the most qualified applicant and Governor Ricketts should act quickly to appoint Cavanaugh to fill the seat. 

“When I declared my candidacy for LD6 in July, I told the residents of the district that I was ready to go to Lincoln to represent their needs and concerns in the Capitol.”  Cavanaugh said.  “Since my announcement, I have been out talking to the residents of my district and listening to their concerns. I am ready to start working for LD6 and to bring a voice to the priorities of the residents to the floor of the legislature.  It is time to get to work on tax relief, investments in education, quality child care, protecting our seniors, and growing the good-paying jobs.”


Machaela Cavanaugh Files to Run for Nebraska Legislature

OMAHA, NE – Machaela Cavanaugh has officially filed to run for the Nebraska Legislature, seeking to represent her friends and neighbors in Legislative District 6.

“I am proud to officially submit my name for the office of Nebraska’s Legislative district 6” Cavanaugh said.  “I am running because the people of my district, and across the state, deserve to have representatives who will put problem solving over partisanship. 


Machaela Cavanaugh Welcomes New Baby

OMAHA, NE –Machaela Cavanaugh and her husband Nick Brotzel are delighted to announce the birth of their son, Barrett Lee Brotzel born on July 10, 2018 weighing in at 8 pounds 15 ounces. 

Barrett joins his sisters Della 4 and Harriet 3. 

Cavanaugh, a candidate for Legislature in District 6, says that the arrival of her third healthy child is both a blessing and a responsibility.
